Bed bugs are really interesting creatures. They are very small and they can easily hide in even the smallest crack in the property. Even one bed bug is enough to start a giant colony. They breed very fast, which is why they are so dangerous to people. The biggest problem is that it can take a lot of time for a person to even realise that he has bed bugs in his home at all. And when people usually find out, it’s already too late and the measures that need to be taken are already radical. This is why people should be very careful at all times. It’s also good to learn as much as possible about these creatures, in order to get to know them better. Let’s check these interesting facts about bed bugs, which can be really useful for everyone.

Feeding time. Have you ever wondered why you can’t see the bed bugs? I mean, you always wake up already bitten all over your body, but you rarely or never see the bug itself. This is because bed bugs are nocturnal creatures. They hide in small cracks and inside the mattress during the day, and they come out to feed at night, when we usually sleep. And they always play it smart. They come out in the hours right before dawn, when people sleep so hard, that they can’t feel anything. They are gone just before the sun comes up. And they even don’t feed so often. They come out to feed only once every four or five days. So, they can torture you for months before you even realise what is the problem in your home. This habit is what makes them very dangerous to us.

At night the whole colony comes out and they start biting their victims in clusters. This is why the easiest way to know what has bitten you is to look at the bites. If you have lots of swollen red dots in one place on your body, you can easily assume that you have bed bugs in your home. If the count of the separate bites is around 500, this means that the the infestation is severe, and you’ll probably need to call a pest control company to fix the problem.

Hiding spots. Many people think that bed bugs usually live in people’s beds. This is partly truth, because the bed is very close to their source of food, which is us. But the bed bugs don’t hide only there. They can practically hide absolutely everywhere. They really like small and hidden cracks, sofas, armchairs, desks and many other places, where they can find a hiding spot. This is why getting rid of the bed probably won’t solve your problem.

Bed bug bait. There are many theories on what attracts the bed bugs to our beds. The truth here is simple – we are. The bed bugs are attracted to the carbon dioxide we produce every time we exhale. We are the ones who practically invite them unwillingly. They can also smell our scent, so it’s impossible to run away from them. The only thing we can do is to solve the problem as soon as it appears.
